Rap's Original Samples Vol 3

Welcome to December. This months R.O.S Vol. 3 brings you up to date tracks by staying away from the 90's same ol same ol songs. Keeping it fresh by hearing where the new songs get their samples from for their new joints. Check how DJ Premier flips Miles Davis "Water Babies"  for "The Gang Starr Bus" (a great tribute for Guru), or see how Skyzoo just rhymes over David Auxlrod's "Holy Thursday" no loops, not even chopped, just straight spitting over the original. Twitter with Caution by Pipomixes

This is not an anti-Twitter rant. Instead, I'd consider it some strongly suggested recommendations for all deejays who use this social networking tool. Most deejays use Twitter in a perfectly tolerable manner by using it as a way to promote mixes, gigs, and witty humor. Other deejays have clear cases of diarrhea of the thumb. Various deejays have gone Tom Cruise on us. We love them as deejays, but once they start showing their true selves they become more annoying than a poor wifi connection. Unlike Tom Cruise, almost all of our favorite deejays don't have a premier public relations staff to clean-up their messes. That's what I'm here for. Below, is a set of observations and rules that could help many of our favorite deejays save themselves from themselves.

1. There are limits to self promotion. We all understand that Twitter is a tool primarily used for self promotion, but a little modesty PLEASE! Want to tweet where you'll be spinning next? Cool. Want to re-tweet where you'll be spinning next every hour on the hour? Still Cool (I guess) Want to tweet your latest mix? Please do. Want to re-tweet your latest mix everyday for 6 months? That's cool too. Want to tell the twitter world how you "rocked _________(insert your favorite city here)" after every single gig? Get the f*ck outta here! We get it, your the greatest deejay since sliced bread. Is it really necessary to tell us over and over again? Want to know who's especially guilty of this? I won't name names, but I will give you a little rhyme: Twitter dumb, twitter dee, this deejay's tendency to suck himself off is gayer than a dude wearing a pair of capris.

2. Please no philosophical quotes (especially if they're by you). I need a deejay telling me philosophy like I need a hole in my head. I want to hear your latest mix or attend your next gig. I don't want to read your poor attempt at street corner philosophy. I'll read Plato if I'm looking for something philosophical. Just because somebody read a book to you doesn't mean you have to share the one sentence that you remember with us over and over again. In the words of the late, great 2pac, "your whole style is bit!" Again, I won't name any names here, but a certain 26th letter deejay should be doing a 25 to life bid for plagiarism.

3. Tweeting, "people who are on Twitter all day are gay" is.....GAY!! If you're on Twitter all day, OWN IT! You're more stupid than stupid if you go dissing people who tweet all day when your own profile shows that you have 40,000 tweets. There is a certain deejay who I could put on blast for this, but I'll save him for later.

4. Reality Check 1,2. Probably not the best idea to start spouting off as a deejay about how you're going to take over the world when you have as many followers as I have wives. Even if I was a polygamist, you still wouldn't have enough followers to talk about taking over the world. There are a few deejays that come to mind here, but you probably haven't heard of them.

5. Who needs a Mad Rapper when we have Mad DJ's. Man, your favorite deejay is one bitter mofo. To be honest, a little bit of bitterness is entertaining to a degree. In fact, Twitter is the perfect venue for some witty, mean spirited humor. With that said, there are some deejays who come off as flat-out ugly people. One particular deejay that comes to mind spends most of his day essentially telling himself how wonderful he is, and telling everybody else how stupid they are. This particular deejay also enjoys tweeting over and over again how much he loves his kid. If you love your kid, tell your kid. Why do you feel the need to convince me how much you love your kid? I know, I know. Why do you follow this guy? Probably for the same reason I have the tendency to glance at car wrecks. Who is this deejay? Sh*t, I'm afraid to tell you all (dude seems like he's got anger issues). However, I will tell you that you probably wouldn't know his name if not for the legacy of a certain fallen hip hop great.

Hott Off The Press Tribute To Heavy D

On November 8th We Lost the Overweight Lover the Jamaica-born Big Belly Gorgon, Heavy D. Hip Hop is getting older and as we love to talk about our great heros from the late 80's early 90's, we losing some of the artist of that time that help shaped Hip Hop. Heavy D was one of them. Very sad news because Rap had many styles back in those days and now they are leaving us and no one is replacing or helping shape Hip Hop Like Heavy D, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Jam Master Jay, J Dilla, Roc Raida, Mr. Magic, and the many artists that we miss. Be that it may, Heavy D is now in a peaceful place along with his dancer Trouble T Roy who died in 1990 (the song T.O.R.Y (They Reminisce Over You) by Pete Rock & CL Smooth was dedicated to him). Myself, Deano Presto and my sisters boyfriend Camille Jamal dedicated a special mix on Hott Off The Press on Leicester's Demon FM. May Heavy D Rest In Peace.

PE: In Full Effect (The Mess Age-n-Hour Muse Sick)

Psykhomantus, Chuck D, EMD, Big P, Flavor Flav

Inspired by Public Enemy’s Fear Of A Black Planet tour this month, myself and my crew went to see them in Birmingham and what a show it was. A powerful performance by one of rap’s greatest groups from the 80’s and still can out do any show of today if you ask me. Never a dull moment when Chuck D, Flavor Flav and the rest of the posse is on stage performing classic tracks from the 1989 album “Fear Of A Black Planet”, also joints from “Yo! Bum Rush The Show”, “It Take’s A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” and others joints from some their albums, you just had to be there. I was so amped up by their show I had to do a mixtape, nothing but Public Enemy was rocking on my iPhone. Big Shout out to Flavor Flav who signed my book (Flavor Flav, The Icon: The Memoir) to me and my lady, also EMD, Big P (and Raise) of my crew A Few Good Men who was at the P.E. gig that night. Enjoy the mix.

Free Download: Tron Urban Legacy 2

Two years I put the first part of Tron Uban Legacy mixtape out on Coopr8.net web page before it got closed down, then the next year (Last year) I re uploaded it onto mixcrate.com. The first mixtape was just my version of what it would be like in the sci-fi world with soul. I am a big fan of sci-fi movies and a big fan of Tron. Tron 2 didn't get too much hype but I still liked the film even so it was way overated. As for the mixtape It was over 500 downloads with in two months then Megaupload took it off. I was pissed, didn't know That mixtape was gonna go wild like that but am sure people must of thought it had something to do with the movie, Oh! Well. Anyway! I enjoyed making it as I am known and surrounded by Funk, Soul and Hip Hop, I don't get much time to hear Broken Beat or Electronica which am a big fan of. Something about Electronic Soul music that sends a buzz to me like when i first heard rap music as a kid, it's the new funk for me, sci-fi funk. Tunes like "Everybody Touch It" by J Davey, "Souls Brother" and "Dust & Kisses" by Sa-Ra Creative Partnership, "Black Sun" by The Politik and Hollywood by Joy Jones hits me in the same way as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane and EPMD did. My good friend Sure Shot downloaded Tron Uban Legacy onto CD and played it every time we got into his car. He kept buggin me to do another one but I never got round to it as I had way to many projects and gigs to do, I just never had the time and also not putting my ear to the street as much to know what was out and bangin' in the world of that type of music, It was out of my circle as I was more focus on my Breaks for B-Boy events back then. Well! fast fwd to now and I did get to manage to peep whats out there and kept some of the songs that I'm diggin in the Electronica world on file. This second version remains me of the first, hearing something new, creative and funky but most important, futuristic. Enjoy this one, who know's, another one might come out. Time will tell.
